In April 2024, the Fountain View SDA Church embarked on a powerful two-week crusade, held in Chanjowe from the 14th to the 27th. Led by Elder Freddie Van der Linde from Clash of Minds in South Africa, the theme of the crusade was “GOD’S FINAL CALL.” This mission was not just another event—it was a spiritually significant moment for the small Chanjowe Branch and the surrounding communities.

The Need for Evangelism in Chanjowe
The Chanjowe Branch, established with just eight members, had long recognized the need for evangelistic support. Situated in an area surrounded by six villages, the branch is at the heart of a community of about 1,500 people. Beyond a 3km radius lie even more villages, many of which have never been reached by the gospel.
Since June 2021, Fountain View SDA Church has been actively involved in the Chanjowe area, with their efforts resulting in the blessing of a “One Day Church” by Maranatha in 2023. Despite these strides, evangelistic efforts in the region had historically faced challenges, particularly a lack of baptisms, which discouraged further outreach.
However, hope was reignited when members who followed Clash of Minds’ popular series called ‘What’s Up Prof‘ suggested inviting Elder Freddie to lead a crusade. His reputation and dedication to evangelism made him a perfect fit for the task, and he agreed to come. Despite concerns about logistics and hosting a foreign guest, the church pressed forward, preparing for a campaign that would change lives.
A Divine Impact Through the Crusade
The preparation for the crusade was intense, with the construction of a pulpit stand and shelters for participants. The crusade began on Sunday, April 14th, and from the start, it was evident that God was at work in extraordinary ways.
For the first time, the church used a high-quality PA system, a generous gift from Elder Freddie. As the speakers were directed toward the nearby villages, something miraculous happened. While Elder Freddie, standing just 500 meters away, could hardly hear the sound, reports came from 3 kilometers away that the message of the gospel was loud and clear. This unexpected reach prompted the headman of one village to invite the crusaders to hold a meeting, leading to a request for another crusade in his village.
The impact of the crusade extended far beyond the technical equipment. Elder Freddie’s approach to evangelism—his humility, willingness to ride a motorcycle after 20 years, and his open-hearted interaction with the local communities—broke down social and cultural barriers. His ability to connect with people in the villages, even visiting the local prison to pray with inmates, was a powerful testimony of Christ’s love in action.
Transforming Lives in Chanjowe
One of the most profound outcomes of the crusade was the baptism of 53 individuals, an unexpected and joyful event. The local Chewa tribe, known for their secretive traditions, is typically resistant to outside influences. But the grace of God moved hearts, and lives were transformed despite the challenges.
The success of this crusade serves as a reminder that God is always at work, even in places where the soil seems hard. The church not only witnessed spiritual breakthroughs but also learned invaluable lessons from Elder Freddie’s humility and approach to ministry.
The impact of this crusade will be felt for years to come. The PA system donated by Elder Freddie will be instrumental in future crusades across the district, starting as soon as May 12, 2024. Additionally, the books and other resources Elder Freddie provided will help the Fountain View SDA Church continue reaching out to unentered areas with the message of hope.
We are deeply grateful to Clash of Minds for their role in advertising this event, which led many to discover the ministry of Elder Freddie. Their efforts have truly helped in bringing hundreds to Christ.
As we reflect on the success of this crusade, we give all glory to God for the work He has done. May His grace and peace continue to abound in Chanjowe and beyond as we remain faithful to our mission of sharing the everlasting gospel. Amen!
